Strategy Design and Execution
Design a measurable strategy that creates and delivers value better than anyone else.
A strategy is not an aspiration or a dream
Successful organisations recognise that they exist primarily to create a better world for their customers and other stakeholders. For these organisations, a strategy is not an aspiration or a dream, but it is about how to consistently create, deliver and capture value better than anyone else. It is about building a high-performance culture and therefore a high-performance organisation.
High-performance organisations have clarity of:
• How to create, deliver and capture value, that is, their business model, and
• How to measure success.
The three processes necessary for successful strategy design and execution
Strategy design and execution involves three processes – strategy design, measurement and improvement – the most fundamental being the measurement process which provides feedback on whether a strategy is working or not.
Combining these three processes bridges the strategy to execution gap
Our Performance Leadership Process (PLP) for strategy design and execution organises these processes into two overlapping phases –planning and implementation – and four stages – designing, reporting, discussing and improving to make strategy design and execution deliberate and practical.
At the Planning Phase, the focus of the Reporting Stage is the determination of the current performance gap, how to close it and to design and produce a baseline performance report. Reporting Stage, at Implementation Phase, focuses on monitoring progress towards strategy.
